SHARJAH — Six students of Sharjah Men’s College (SMC) are undergoing month-long training in scuba diving as part of their college’s newly-formed Sharjah Colleges Scuba Club.
One of the trainees, Saleh Ibrahim Abdulla, said, “This is a brilliant experience. I am learning so much about diving, about myself and my friends. This is something completely new to me and is very challenging. I’m looking forward to diving in the ocean next month.”
Moad Sultan, a final year Business student, said, “Scuba diving is very technical. I snorkel a lot. However, this course is more advanced. It allows me the opportunity to explore places that I’ve always dreamed of.”
Instructor Mohammed Ali of the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI), said the students would be equipped with basic diving skills that will enable them to dive into sea. They are learning to use the breathing apparatus and mastering neutral buoyancy at three metres under water, besides diving safely in the indoor swimming pool at the sports complex.
