More than 200 antique pieces, donated by the ruling Al Qasimi family and a private collector, have been put up for display in the 'Silver Room' of the museum.

The jewellery is a fine collection of necklaces, bracelets, armlets, anklets, finger rings, earrings and head adornments.

The ornaments remind visitors of skilful craftsmanship of the yore. Though most of the jewellery was made for women, there are also several beautiful items designed for children and men.

The collection will be featured on a web site to be set up about traditional silver jewellery and will be included in the museum's web site www.rakmuseum.gov.ae.

The museum is open from 10am to 5pm from September to May, and from 8am to 12 noon and 4pm to 7pm from June to August.

It is closed on Tuesdays but open on all public holidays.
