Sila Hospital gets a dialysis centre

ABU DHABI — For Rashed Amer Al Monsoori, a 74-year-old Emirati patient who requires frequent dialysis, it was a dream come true as the Western Region Development Council (WRDC) and the Abu Dhabi Healthcare Authority unveiled a kidney dialysis unit, as well as a physiotherapy centre, at Sila Hospital yesterday.

Al Monsoori, a resident of Sila, around 350km west of Abu Dhabi, earlier had to go as far as Ghayati Medical Centre located on the borders with Saudi Arabia, for treatment.

For a long time, Al Mansoori had been rooting for dialysis facilities in Sila.

During the opening ceremony, Mohammed Hamed Al Mazrouei, director-general of WRDC, visited the old patient and asked him if there was anything else WRDC could do for him.

“He replied that he is very happy now to be able to receive the treatment at home,” said Al Mazrouei. Abdul Badie, the medical director of Sila Hospital, said the hospital currently had a temporary dialysis unit which would be fully developed in two months and a permanent unit would be established.

“We are planning to have three dialysis machines, with a permanent doctor and nurse,” said Badie. He added that the new physiotherapy department at the hospital was much in demand, as there is a centre for the physically challenged in Sila.

Although Sila Hospital was established in the 1990s, it was only six months ago that it set up its emergency unit.
