“As per the new scheme, intercity buses will be available to and from the three targeted areas from 5am to 11pm, instead of 6am to 10pm,” Sharjah Intercity Transport Manager Adel Al Hosany told Khaleej Times.

“The daily bus trips to the eastern and central regions will be increased from 34 to 38, while nine more trips will be added to the nine trips to Al Hamriya area,” Al Hosany said.

The frequency of the buses to Al Hamriya will be increased so that there will be a trip every hour instead of two hours.

Al Hosany said all intercity one-way and two-way trips start from Al Jubail Bus Stop to 21 different destinations across the country, with an overall frequency of one hour.

The 115 Sharjah intercity buses make 250 trips daily. The tariff ranges from Dh5 to Dh30.

Seven buses are being operated to Abu Dhabi, ten to Al Ain, and 23 others to Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Al Dhaid, Fujairah, Khor Fakkan and Al Hamriya.

“In collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), 75 buses are being operated to six destinations in Dubai, including Bur Dubai, Deira, Satwa, Karama, Al Qusais and Jebel Ali,” he said.

“Being up to the level in terms of safety, security and convenience, the 30/49-seat intercity buses are attracting more than six million passengers every year.”

The Sharjah Intercity Transport is planning to increase the number of routes, destinations, trips and buses.
