Sharjah to ensure safety of buildings

SHARJAH — Sharjah Municipality is taking stringent measures to ensure the safety of buildings during construction and after.

Engineer Sultan Al Moalla, Head of the Technical Administration department said that they would check the safety of the design of any proposed building project before starting to implement it to make sure that it abides by the safety regulations.

“Supervisors from the department also conduct surprise visits to construction sites in order to supervise the working conditions and to impose quality checks against landlords in case they find any construction defect. Before issuing any fines we contact the landlords and warn them about the importance of conducting regular maintainance work in their buildings, Eng Al Moalla said adding that in order to issue a maintenance approval an evaluation will be done on buildings by examining the building and taking samples.
