Mohammed Ahmed Amin, general coordinator of the festival, said this year's festival would be far superior than previous ones as the committee had learned much from its previous experiences and had a set plan to improve and enhance the image of the festival.
This year's festival has several new features. It would be expanded by adding more exhibitions, commercial outlets, restaurants, an entertainment centre for children with a number of amusement rides, country-cultural pavilions and Ramadan villages.
Amin said the Sharjah Police and Civil Defence Department played a great role in maintaining law and order during the previous 15 rounds. This year, the police have in place a comprehensive plan to ensure security, safety and ease traffic congestion in and around the festival areas.
He hailed the efforts of Sharjah Police Department in making the festival a success in cooperation with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and industry, the organisers of the festival.
Amin said at a meeting held recently at the chamber's premises all security aspects of festival were discussed with the Sharjah Police.
An official from Sharjah Police told the Khaleej Times that the department would not only provide security services to the festival but would also participate in its activities by organising lectures on traffic safety and fire protection procedures, educate visitors on the importance of abiding by traffic and security regulations and train them in aspects of first aid administration, on how to use the domestic fire extingusher and how to be safe in a crowded environment.
The official said the comprehensive security and safety plan for the festival included deploying traffic police officers in crowded spots to ease traffic congestion, mobile and still patrols at the activities areas and ambulances to take on any and every emergency.
