His comments came on the sidelines of the function to inaugurate MEPOL, the Middle East’s only specialised trade event for internal state security, police equipment, industrial site security, and civil defence.

The exhibition was opened at Expo Centre Sharjah by Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

The three-day event is being jointly held by Expo Centre Sharjah and Sharjah Police under the patronage of Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

Speaking to reporters, Brig. Al Mutawa said the network system to be linked with hotels and furnished apartments was currently being implemented in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and would soon be introduced in Sharjah.

“This system has played a great role in curbing crimes and allowed the police to monitor the activities of criminals who enter the country to practise illegal activities.”

There will also be unified network between all the police departments in the country to facilitate the mission in terms of maintaining security and preventing crimes, he added.

Brig. Al Mutawa said the Sharjah Police Department had plans to buy advanced security and fire safety equipment presented by various participating international companies in the exhibition.

On security in Sharjah and increasing crimes during the last two years, he said police had set up a permanent committee to review all cases and to promote security awareness and measures to prevent crimes. “The awareness campaigns are being organised throughout the year in all parts of Sharjah to educate the public about the safety and security procedures to protect themselves and properties.”

Brig. Al Mutawa refuted a suggestion that there was a shortage of police personnel in Sharjah due to budget deficit.
