Sharjah cabbies protest

SHARJAH — Nearly 70 drivers of Citi Taxi in Sharjah also went on strike yesterday asking the company to lower their monthly targets. On January 1, all taxi companies operating under the umbrella of Sharjah Transport Corporation hiked their fares by 50 fils and also increased the monthly targets of the drivers.

Drivers said they would not work unless the company withdrew the hike, but company officials said that the increase was reasonable.

Abdullah Sultan, General Manager of Cars Taxi that operates as Citi Taxi in Sharjah, said that the company was not exerting any kind of pressure on their employees, so their demands were unreasonable.

According to details, the company has asked the drivers to meet a monthly target of more than Dh9,000 in order to avail of a 35 per cent as commission.
