Shaikha Manal Young Artist Award deadline extended

Dubai -- The deadline for submissions for ‘The Shaikha Manal Young Artist Award 2010’ has been extended to Friday, 31st December, 2010.

Muna Bin Kalli, Executive Director of the Dubai Ladies Club, said ‘To accommodate the many budding artists who have expressed interest but were unable to complete their artworks due to the long holidays, the art submission deadline has been extended.’

First launched in 2006, The Shaikha Manal Young Artist Award is an annual visual art competition which aims to encourage, recognise and promote emerging artists from the UAE and is popular amongst university students majoring in Art, Design and Multimedia.

The 50 shortlisted entries will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges from the world of art and recognised global institutions.

The contest is open to all UAE residents between the ages of 18 to 30 years. One major criterion for the award is that the artist should not previously have had an independent solo exhibition. The award grants the winning artists the exciting opportunity to exhibit their work in a single-person show.

Interested participants can follow the instructions on the website to make their online submission. The deadline to apply and upload entries is 31^st December, 2010. The 50 shortlisted works will be exhibited at The Art Centre of the Dubai Ladies Club and will be open for public viewing.
