During the meeting, which explored means of strengthening and streamlining cooperation between the UAE and the international aid organisation, Shaikha Lubna discussed mechanisms by which to strengthen the UAE’s global humanitarian role, pointing out that the UAE, along with its humanitarian institutions, hopes to provide assistance to any part of the world suffering from a humanitarian crisis, adding that it is now one of the world’s foremost countries that responds to crisis as a result of its adoption of an effective mechanism for monitoring and positively and constructively dealing with them.

She pointed out that the UAE employs multiple methods for providing assistance in order to suit each individual case, which include constructing shelters and field hospitals and camps and supplying them with all of their required services, medical personnel, medicines, foodstuff and relief supplies.

Shaikha Lubna pointed out that although the UAE has only been recently established four decades ago, it is ranked among the world’s top 20 donor countries, an achievement that is in line with the vision and efforts of its wise leadership, which has always emphasized the importance of humanitarian work and providing all forms of cooperation and relief to all nationalities, religions and ethnicities.

For his part, Guterres congratulated, on behalf of the UNHCR, Shaikha Lubna on her new appointment as Minister of International Cooperation and Development, commending the increasingly important role the UAE plays in providing humanitarian aid and emergency assistance to displaced people at both the regional and international levels, especially to the refugees and displaced of humanitarian crisis and natural disasters.

He added that the creation of the new Ministry reflects the UAE leadership’s awareness of the pivotal role the country plays in supporting humanitarian work around the world and will further concentrate efforts towards supporting the country’s role with its various humanitarian organizations, in alleviating the suffering of those affected by disasters in any part of the world.
