Shaikh Saif receives ICDO honour

ABU DHABI — Lt.-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, has received the Medal of Commander of the International Order of Civil Defence.

The medal which is awarded to heads of state, ministers and public figures for their outstanding contributions in the field of civil defence, was bestowed upon Shaikh Saif by Brigadier Nawaf Al Salibi, Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO).

Brigadier Salibi said the medal was conferred on Shaikh Saif for his “exemplary efforts to put in place a robust civil defence system in the UAE’.

In his acceptance remarks, Shaikh Saif said the UAE under the leadership of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will not allow any lapses as far as safety and protection of UAE nationals and resident expatriates are concerned.

“Our leadership is cognisant of the fact that human resources are the most valuable assets and also the most efficient engine for the growth of our economy.”

Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to ensure that protection of people is a paramount issue,” he said, adding that the UAE was evolved numerous civil defence projects in recent years.
