The revised Article No. 12 reads as follow: “It is prohibited to hunt, kill or capture birds, wild or marine animals identified in the appendixes No. 1 for mammals, 2 for birds and 3 for reptiles. Under the law, it is forbidden to possess, transport, sell or roam with these animals — live or dead — without obtaining licence from the competent authority. It is also prohibited to damage birds’ nests or destroy their eggs. The executive order shall determine the licensed areas for hunting and stipulate the conditions for licensing and the means of supervision for the execution of this article.”

The law, which took effect from the date of its issuance, authorises the minister to revise the said appendixes through omission, addition and transfer.

According to Article No. 83, any person who violates the provisions of Article 12 and para one of Article No. 64 of this law, shall be punished in addition to confiscation of the seized birds and animals with:

1. Imprisonment for a term not less than six months and a fine not less than Dh20,000 if the crime is committed against any of the species stated in appendix No. 1 for mammals.

2. Imprisonment for a term not more than three months and a fine of Dh10,000 or one of the two punishments if the crime is committed against any of the species mentioned in appendix No. 2 for birds.

3. Imprisonment for a term not less than one month and a fine of Dh5,000 or one of the two punishments if the crime is committed against any of the species stated in appendix No. 3 for reptiles annexed to this law. The law shall be published in the gazette.
