The areas to benefit from these road projects include Abu Shagara, Al Madam, Khor Fakkan and a few other places.

An official said that the department has brought about some changes in the intersections to ease traffic congestion in Abu Shagara.

He added that the road improvement project in Al Madam area was also one of the top priorities, particularly with regard to the lanes and bylanes in and around the government housing complexes.

In the same area, the department has built parking lots, pedestrian walkways and several subways.

In the eastern region, the official said, the department has accomplished several projects in Khor Fakkan including building several internal roads in Al Lololia.

He added that several public parking lots, pedestrian walkways and subways had also been constructed in the area. In addition to these, drainage tubes have been installed to improve the sewage system.

The official pointed out that the emirate has been witnessing great developments over the past two years insofar as road construction projects are concerned.

The government of Sharjah has drawn up several plans to develop many areas in the emirate and has carried out projects to expand roads to solve traffic problems. “The roads project plan will be implemented in various parts of the emirates by the end of 2007,” he said.
