He will be accompanied by Shaikh Hamid Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Economic Department Abu Dhabi.

The water well GWA -368 in Um Hisin was commissioned under the directives of the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 1995, when an agreement was signed between a consortium of two German companies, Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Technishe Zausammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH and Dornier Consulting Daimler Chrysler Services (Dco) and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

The main objective of the project is to explore precious underground water resources of Abu Dhabi, said The Ground water Assessment Project Abu Dhabi( GWAP).

Finding the initial exploration in the region encouraging, Shaikh Zayed had ordered the implementation of a comprehensive ground water exploration programme that covers the entire Western region.

So far 190 exploration wells and 65 ground water monitoring wells have been drilled and completed in the Western region according to GWAP.

The wells have a total capacity of 135 million US gallons per day an average of 2,500 ppm.

The total capacity of all exploration, production and observation wells completed by now by the GWAP is about 541deep and shallow exploration and monitoring wells with a total capacity of 300 million US Gallons.

Chancellor Schoerder and Shaikh Hamid's visit to the wells has been organised under the auspices of the Presidential Office, by the GWAP, the German Consortium and German embassy in UAE and supported by the Private Department of Shaikh Zayed.
