AL AIN — Several booksellers in Al Ain have said school book abstracts on various subjects are being prepared by instructors of the Al Ain Educational Zone (AAEZ) along with senior teachers.

The demand for such abstracts, which are increasingly being used by students to bypass textbooks, seems to go up before the General Secondary School Certificate Examination.

Bookshops here do brisk business by selling such abstracts and they have come up with various methods, including discounted rates for such materials, to attract students.

Students are apparently willing to dish out Dh10 for a research paper and even Dh 200-300 for such abstracts which are sold openly in some shops.

While teachers feel that the educational zones should come down heavily on such trade, booksellers assert that abstracts are prepared by teachers themselves and these do help students a lot.

Engineer Nabil Salih Al Dhahry, Director of the AAEZ, said instructors who are involved in such practices will be penalised.
