The need for the facility is dictated by the increasing number of commercial and industrial companies and the travel and tourism firms, as well as the growing demand for workforce. The subject matter came at a meeting of the council at its 15th session of the fourth legislative chapter at the Government House on Wednesday.

The conferees also called for activating the role of the department in coordinating with the Sharjah Police to arrest the expatriates who entered the country on visit visas or permits and overstayed after the expiry of the permitted period, as well as those whose residence visas expired, but they remained in the country without extending their visas in time. The council also called for improving and activating the investigation and follow-up sections at the Naturalisation and Residency Directorate to crack down on illegal immigrants, smugglers of foreign labour and the employers who hire absconding workers.

The Directorate of Naturalisation and Residency should coordinate with the security agencies regarding receiving those deported from the country for health reasons after confirming they are medically unfit, the council said.

The meeting, which was presided over by Ali bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud, speaker of the council, called for promulgation of a law streamlining relations between domestic servants, labour supply offices, and the sponsors.

Earlier, Al Mahmoud said the council had dedicated the meeting to discuss the policy of the Naturalisation and Residency Directorate in Sharjah due to the importance it is gaining day by day for the expansion of its scope and activity across the UAE borders.
