The project will include 150 houses for the Emiratis in the urban areas, and 650 houses for those living in remote areas of the emirate. The project is being undertaken on the directives of Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah who is keen to provide better amenities of life to nationals in the emirate.

Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Ras Al Khaimah Municipality and the President of the Saud Housing Pragramme, said that like the Zayed Housing Programme the Saud project also was aimed at providing houses to the Emiratis. He said the plans have already drawn for the construction of 800 houses for Emirati youths and the low income earners any they will shortly start on the construction of these houses. During his weekly visits to the different localities of the emirate since the beginning of this year, Shaikh Saud was briefed on various problems faced by the local residents including the need for houses especially in the remote areas. Shaikh Saud has vowed to meet their housing needs immediately, said Al Shamsi. He stressed that the government had already allocated land for building houses for nationals.

Al Shamsi said Shaikh Saud initiated the housing programme to help the Emirati youths who could not afford a decent accommodation due to the increased costs of land and construction materials in the country. Al Shamsi noted that about 7,810 Emiratis in Ras Al Khaimah had submitted applications both to the Zayed Housing Foundation and the Saud Housing Programme. Of the total, 2, 311 have already received houses.
