An 11-year-old boy woke up to find his Samsung tablet, that he had taken to bed at night, had burned a hole in the bed after it was left plugged in for nine hours.
Callum Hewkin from Staffordshire, England, had snuck the tablet into his room to watch a program but fell asleep with the device next to him. When he woke up in the morning, the boy was left baffled as his tablet was stuck to the bed's mattress and the room was filled with smoke, Daily Mail reported.
His parents, Amy and Stewart Hewkin said the device was minutes away from catching fire and had left a hole in the bedding and mattress, exposing the metal springs. They said they were unaware their son had snuck the gadget into his room. "The last thing anyone wants is to wake up and find their child seriously injured or dead because a tablet or phone has set fire in their room. Callum's life could have been at risk," his father said.
Now, the couple has urged other parents to be alert and make sure their children do not have tablets or phones with them in bed. While Samsung issued a statement following the incident that said: "We are currently reaching out to the customer to conduct a full investigation of this matter. Until Samsung is able to obtain and examine the device, it is impossible to determine what happened."
