“Footfall figures grew 21 per cent, or by 70,000 customers during the three days of Eid this year, from the 26-28th November,” said Fuad Sharaf, Vice President for Mall of the Emirates. “It was also the first time we have had over 130,000 people each day visiting the Mall, on three consecutive days,” he said.

“Many of our leading brands have also reported sales increases compared to the same three day holiday period last year. In retail, Jacky’s Electronics recorded a very strong 55 per cent increase and Lacoste grew sales by 3.3 per cent. In casual dining, LeCrêParis had a 20 per cent rise and sales at Butcher Shop and Grill went up 5.3 per cent,” he said.

“We are definitely benefiting from our Metro station, with reported traffic of 55,000 people arriving from the trains during Eid. This is the busiest stop on the Red Line, and is translating into the Mall gaining many additional visitors. In addition, we’ve seen a lot of tourists coming into the mall, predominantly Russians, Indians, Europeans and nationals of the GCC countries,” he said.

A special entertainment programme lined up during this festive period created a special ambiance that further contributed to the mall’s overall success.

The good news comes in response to an article in the Khaleej Times on Monday 30th November that incorrectly reported comments from store sales staff and results at the Mall.

The article quoted two people, Mohammed Taha from Lacoste and Yanethon Ayoub from Diesel, both of whom are not employees at the two retailers. In addition, the article only mentioned Mall of the Emirates when one of the stores highlighted does not exist in the Mall.

The errors made in the original article are regretted and Khaleej Times apologises for any false impression created.
