According to senior municipality officials, the banned toys were found to be in contravention of religious beliefs, customs and traditions. Also, some of the toys were found to be containing toxic materials or small parts that could be dangerous to small children.

Redha Salman, head of the Environment Protection and Safety Section, said, “Fines ranging up to Dh50,000 will be imposed on companies which import these toys. This move is an attempt to take care of children’s health and to respect the religious beliefs, traditions and culture.”

Salman added that the municipality has dedicated a part of its website to banned toys.
