Safety boost at Al Qasba Canal

SHARJAH — The Sharjah Civil Defence Department is launching an advanced safety and protection project in Al Qasba Canal Entertainment City to ensure the security and safety of families and their children who visit this city on a daily basis.

Colonel Gharib Hassan, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence, said that the project aimed at evaluating and enhancing safety and protection standards, and enhance the working of safety services like the supervision being provided by the department.

Hassan said that the safety measures will cover two large auditoriums, amusement rides and commercial establishments and buildings in the city by deploying fire-fighting trucks in their close vicinity. Fire stations close to them would be quick to respond to emergencies so as to prevent loss of lives and damage to properties. “The project also includes plans of evacuating the the city during an emergency,” Col Hassan said.

He said that the department will at a later stage bolster and enlarge the protection plan to cover shops and restaurants. The owners of these shops and restaurants would be encouraged to cooperate with police and Civil Defence officers to ensure the safety and security of the public.

Col Hassan said that as part of the project, the department will launch an awareness programme which will include lectures on the importance of safety procedures, and training in the various ways of evacuating the city in case of an emergency. "These lectures will be conducted in the Al Qasba Auditorium, while the practical training will take place at the Civil Defence premises in Al Muwailih."

The distribution of publications and pamphlets that will educate the public about the safety and security measure, including stickers and signboards that carry the emergency telephone number of the 24 hours hotline are also the main features of the project.

Anaki Morsian, Director Of Al Qasba Rental office, said that the project was bound to attract a large number of investors to the city.
