Rawdah Osman Salih, the principal of Sowaihan School, was asked by Al Ain Educational Zone (AAEZ) to return the new contract for the academic year 2005-2006, and when she went to the zone, she was verbally told that her contract with AAEZ will not be renewed. She waited during the holidays for the written decision from either the Ministry of Education or AAEZ to confirm that she was discharged from her duties.

Salim Al Kuthairy, AAEZ Deputy Director for Educational Affairs, said the zone had not received any official letter from the ministry regarding the sacking of the school principal.

The perplexed principal notified AAEZ about the salary being credited to her bank account, but could not reach anyone in the ministry since nobody took her calls.

Al Kuthairy said the faux pas could be the result of lack of internal correspondence between the Personnel Department at the ministry and AAEZ.

After returning from her country, Rawda visited her school asking for the official letter regarding her job situation, but they had nothing. "The question is how was the salary credited to her account without her signing the letter of assuming office duties," he asked.
