The 2024 race has seen more twists than a Hollywood blockbuster
Essa AbdulRahman Al Dosary, Assistant Director of Public Transport Department in the municipality said the Sabkha station will be closed from May 14 until July 14 for carrying out the construction of floating pontoons at the station. He said alternative arrangements have been made by diverting the Abra routes to temporary stations on both sides of the creek.
Al Dosary said the temporary station near Twin Towers can be used for boarding the Abras and the temporary station near Carlton Hotel can be used as the alighting point during this period. He added that on the Bur Dubai side the Abras will use the temporary station near the office of the Ministry of Finance.
Some major developments in the water taxi service are in the offing; prominent among these is the proposed introduction of more environment-friendly solar-powered motors for the traditional diesel-powered Abras.
The Abra ferry system, which remained as a mode of crossing the Dubai Creek for over hundred years, has become an integral part of the emirate's public transport infrastructure. Some 159 Abras operate in the creek from Bur Dubai to Deira Old Souq and from Bur Dubai Souq to AI Sabkha.
