The courses include IT, Finance/Accounting, Public Relations, Sales and Marketing and Human Resources.

The agreement was signed between Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director, and Ahmed bin Byat, Chairman of DEC.

The authority will pay Dh1 million towards the tuition fee of these students who will later be offered jobs in the Public Transport Corporation.

Al Tayer said, "The scholarships are there to encourage national talent and develop their skills and capabilities thus ensuring optimal work performance across various sectors. The RTA supports such causes as we encourage emiratisation."

Ahmed bin Byat added, "The inauguration of NIVE was also in line with the directions of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to create a national development programme for the UAE."

The NIVE is one of the major initiatives of the Dubai Education Council and around 200 students will register in the first semester 2006-2007 to join several specialised programmes to market needs. The number of students will be doubled during the 2007-2008 semester.

Also present were Abdullah Al Madani, Chief Executive Officer of the Corporate Support Services Agency, Yousef Jawad, Director Human Recourses Department, Dr Aysha Al Busmait, Director Marketing and Corporate Communication Department, representing the RTA, and Dr Abdullah Al Karam, General-Secretary of DEC, Mohammed Ali Zainal, Member and Consultant of the Council for the Vocational Education Affairs and Mohammed Saidhom, Executive Director, NIVE.
