RTA staff undergo ISO 9001 training

DUBAI — The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai recently conducted an ISO 9001 training programme for 15 employees of the Public Transport Department, which is also ISO 9001-certified.

The objective of the internal audit training was to develop, improve and maintain internal quality and control of the management system at RTA, a statement said.

The RTA had recently announced the adoption of international operating standards in all its departments. The training programmes will help in defining objectives, evaluating performances, ensuring establishment of internal communication processes, identifying and providing quality personnel and pinpointing infrastructural needs.

Dr Khalid Hamdi, Project Adviser, Office of the Board Chairman RTA, and trainer at the programme, said: "Maintaining quality management in every department will inculcate professionalism and build the necessary skills required for smooth functioning."

He explained that the audits are essential for the Public Transport Department which has received the ISO 9001 certification.

DM training centre inaugurated

DUBAI — The newly built training centre at the Dubai Municipality staff club premises was inaugurated last Tuesday with a two-day workshop on total quality management (TQM).

Abdullah Mohammed Khalfan, Head of Administrative Support and Follow up Office of the Legal Affairs Department, conducted the workshop, which was attended by 25 municipal employees including fresh graduates.

The participants were provided a broad idea about the different aspects of TQM and the benefits of applying it to municipal work. Other topics covered in the workshop were You and Your Customer and Continuous Development.

Khalfan, who spoke about the meaning and cost of quality, said participants were briefed about the different uses of TQM and how its helps enhance the performance level of employees as well as the organisation.

He said the TQM will create a good working atmosphere and give the employees new impetus for higher productivity.
