Road signal timers an innovative measure
THE novel road signal timers, installed by the roads and technical services section of Al Ain Municipality, to alert motorists, pedestrains, and other road users regarding how much time has lapsed or is still left before the traffic signal light will change is a very welcome move — apart from being an effective stress-buster!
These devices have, at present, been installed in the vicinity of schools to ensure that school children and pedestrains in the area are not unduly endangered while crossing roads. The device, which would help in organising the movement of cars near schools, can also act as an effective speed controller according to Engineer Mohammed Nawfla.
Given the recent rise in the number of road accidents near schools, this innovative measure by the Al Ain Municipality has come as a big relief to many. It would be best if the municipalities and traffic control department in other emirates follow this example.
