Rising mercury heralds early summer

DUBAI - Temperatures in the UAE have begun to rise, heralding the onset of an early summer, even as the weatherman has forecast hazy weather with blowing sand and the possibility of rain showers in many parts of the country for the next 48 hours.

Abu Dhabi hit a high of 39 degrees Centigrade, and a low of 28â Centigrade, with all the other Emirates maintaining similar highs today.

The Central Weather Forecasting Office of the Ministry of Communications in Abu Dhabi said that conditions would remain hazy in general this morning, with blowing sand and dust, becoming partly cloudy during the day, with a chance of rain showers over scattered areas, turning thundery at times.

The south-easterly winds of 12 to 18 knots in the morning will turn north-westerly verging between 10 and 16 knots during the evening today, and reach 22 knots over sea. Partly cloudy conditions with intermittent showers and a periodic fall in temperatures has also been forecast for the next 48 hours. Moderate to rough seas with a wave height of five to seven feet are also expected, with sea height gradually decreasing to two to four feet on Saturday.

The weatherman noted that fishermen have been warned not to venture into high seas, and the coastguard has also been issued an alert for this period.
