Richest race in the world
The first of this now legendary annual 2,000 metre race for northern hemisphere four-year olds and above and southern hemisphere three-year olds and above thoroughbreds was run in 1996 and is, today the richest race in the world with a purse of $10 million.
The race has been run at the new Meydan track for the past two years. No horse has ever won the race twice in its 15 runs though jockey Jerry Bailey has been the winner on four occasions.
Part of the Dubai World Cup Night of races, it has now become a must on the world calendar. This is also a major night of off course entertainment with world class performers and the paddock is a riot of fashion enough to rival Ascot especially in ladies’ hats.
