Prominent people from all walks of life gathered on the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) premises to show their solidarity to the deceased’s family.

His son Mursil Qudoos, widow, daughter and daughter-in-law were also present at the ceremony.

A number of speakers shed light on the life and works of Qudoos, including Ziaul Hassan, president of the PAD; Munir Mahmood, chairman, professional wing of the PAD; Zahida Parveen, Press Officer at Pakistan Consulate, Dubai; Riaz Farooq Sahi and Shabbir Merchant.

Hassan said: “Qudoos’ death is a great loss to the Pakistani community in Dubai. Unfortunately, I was never very close to the man but his dedication to his profession has earned him many friends in the UAE.”

Parveen spoke at length and shared some unique moments with the man who never missed a function organised by the Pakistan Consulate here.

“I was surprised when a person introduced me to Qudoos by saying he is baba-e-journalism (father of journalism) in Dubai. I always trusted Qudoos for his professionalism.

“He was the real ambassador of Pakistan in the UAE and his cool demeanour and balanced approach will be rememberd for a long long time to come.” Mahmood wanted to start a scholarship in the name of Qudoos.

“It is time to do something for the journalist community in the UAE. There should be an academy to train the newcomers. I take the initiative and I hope others will join me in this effort.”

Mursil, the bereaved son, said: “I feel I am the luckiest son on the earth. My father was a complete person and he was honest to the core with his profession.

“He got a call from his office (Khaleej Times) that there is an assignment for him on Monday. He was not feeling well at that time but after sometime he called his office to tell them that he is fine and will cover the event.

“I was surprised by his courage but it was not going to happen as his condition worsened and we had to rush him to the hospital and he passed away.”
