The municipal inspectors acted on the complaints from customers about poor hygiene at the restaurant and failure to adhere to municipal health rules, said Adil Ali Al Suwaid, chief of the Health and Environmental Department at RAK Municipality.

He stressed that when the inspectors visited the restaurant, they found that the restaurant’s kitchen and the dining area were dirty with dust and garbage scattered everywhere. The refrigerators stocked with food and drinks were old and in poor condition, he added.

Al Suwaid said that the restaurant had been warned several times to maintain proper hygiene and to stop violating the municipal laws, but its owner did not cooperate.

He noted that the RAK Municipality has intensified inspections to crack down on the shops and canteens selling food products and refreshments in both the Saqr Park and the Awafi tourist area.

Al Suwaid said that since the Awafi annual festivals are commencing in January, scores of visitors and tourists have started camping in the area.

Therefore, there is need to ensure that the shops selling food products to the visitors comply with the municipal food hygiene rules and that proper foods and refreshments are sold to the people.
