Shaikh Mohammed ordered the quick dispatch of relief materials, the first phase of which will start by ferrying basic necessities such as foodstuff, medicines and medical items to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people.

Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Society, said that Gen Shaikh Mohammed’s orders showed the concern of the country’s leadership over the humanitarian situation of the Lebanese people.

“The RCS has immediately started implementing Shaikh Mohammed’s orders. Plans are on to send the first consignment of aid to the affected people in Lebanon,” Al Suweidi said.

He added that arrangements are also being made to send truck-loads of relief materials by land, in coordination with the UAE embassy in Beirut and the Lebanese Red Cross Society.

An RCS delegation, led by Mohammed Nasser Al Otaibah, will leave today for Damascus to oversee aid distribution operations and to purchase more relief materials from Syrian markets.
