Nasser Khalifa Al Bodoor, Assistant Under-Secretary for External and International Relations of the Ministry of Health, chaired the meeting.

Al Bodoor said the committee had begun intensive efforts to set up the centre as per the directives of Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior.

The committee recently received Dr Paul Ackerman and Dr John Weston, US consultants in rehabilitation research, with a view to using their expertise in implementing the project.

Al Bodoor said this centre was a national project, the first of its kind in the region, for the treatment of the injured in road as well as other accidents.

Once the centre came up, the injured would not have to go abroad but receive appropriate treatment and physiotherapy here itself.‘

Al Bodoor added that the project would serve a large number of nationals and expatriate victims of accidents.

It would be implemented in close coordination with federal and local institutions, including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Interior and Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (HAAD), he said.
