Refurbishment work at Airport Road tunnel 
in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI — The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has started wide-ranging refurbishment works in the Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Street tunnel, also known as the Airport Road Tunnel.

Maintenance works included replacement of defective lights, re-painting of the ground markings and tunnel walls, treatment of dividing partitions, grouting of cracks, refurbishment of the tunnel body and repair of the concrete slabs.

The wide-ranging refurbishment work, which started early in August, will continue for a month.

The tunnel is the main traffic corridor going towards the Corniche as well as out of the Abu Dhabi city.

It comprises three driving lanes in each direction, with two emergency lanes and has a capacity to accommodate up to 7,200 vehicles per hour.

The municipality is also undertaking regular maintenance works of metropolitan streets and suburban areas to enhance safety for all road users, including motorists and pe-destrians.
