Arrival

Quickly becoming one of the most talked about (apt for a film about linguists) movies of the year, Arrival is an intelligent sci-fi film for which we absolutely cannot wait.
Starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, not much can be said about the plot for fear of giving everything away. All we can say is aliens arrive on Earth and nobody can communicate with them. It’s up to language expert Amy Adams to intervene and attempt some form of to and fro before the world loses its cool and marches towards war.  With twists and turns along the way, it has been reported that many who have seen this picture have gone straight back in to see it all over again.
Rotten Tomatoes gives it 93%
Trivia: The film is based on the book Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang

Allied

The rumours surrounding this movie and its stars’ Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard’s relationship therein threatened to overshadow the excellent story before it began. Thankfully, with denials from both sides, the fuss seems to have died down and we can now concentrate on the matter at hand.
Allied is a World War II thriller harking back to the days when plots were far from linear despite the characters being pretty. A Canadian intelligence officer and French Resistance fighter meet in Morocco where they complete a mission against the Nazis. After falling in love and marrying in England, Pitt the Canadian, is told his new wife and mother of his child is actually a German spy. He is given 72 hours to find out else he must see her life is ended.
IMDb gives it 7.4
Trivia: Bob Zemeckis directs

Havenhurst

With two such huge films it’s going to be difficult for anything else to get a
look in, which explains the awful horror Havenhurst being given a look in. This
cheaper than cheap picture looks shocking and not in the way it is supposed to.
The plot is too pedestrian to go into but in the interest of filling up space, a
young woman moves into a haunted house. We challenge you to watch the
trailer (and listen to the voice over) and not burst out laughing.
IMDb gives it 5.1
Trivia: Go see Arrival. seriously.

3000 Nights

This superb look film documents a young Palestinian woman’s strife as she
enters an Israeli prison, whilst pregnant, for a crime she did not commit. Giving
birth behind bars, she must protect her son as tensions begin to rise between the
population and the jailers. Trying to maintain a semblance of hope, she wonders
if one day she will be able to see the outside world with her child.
IMDb gives it 7.1
Trivia: Currently being considered for next year’s Oscars
