Making the announcement, Dr. Bill Lex said that this was the largest number of students to enrol since the college began offering programmes in 1999. In addition, the college has a long waiting list of first-year students and students wishing to transfer from other institutions, he said.

Attributing the success of the FWC's students and programmes to the vision of Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, and to the support of His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, he said the interest and assistance from the local community, the skills of the staff and the motivation and enthusiasm of the students were also responsible for the achievement.

FWC kicked off its fifth annual students orientation yesterday, and the programme will continue today under the theme "Reach For The Stars", which focuses on helping new students feel comfortable in their new environment. A highlight of the programme was the keynote address by Dr Mouza Obaid Ghanim Ghubash, a prolific writer, researcher and professor.

As part of the Orientation Programme this year, special daily sessions will be held from today to Sept. 17.

Parents and guardians of all FWC students have been invited to attend the Orientation on September 11.
