Reconcile, move on, says Suu Kyi

DUBAI - The future of Myanmar lies in national reconciliation and the way forward is through compromise, Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi told Khaleej Times in a world exclusive.

“Our ultimate goal, of course, is full-fledged democracy. But the road along which we go must be done through compromise,” she said, outlining a blueprint for the country’s future political set-up.

She even hinted at a role for the military in a future government. Said ‘The Lady’, whose life is being made into a Hollywood film, that violence is not at all on her agenda. “I strongly believe in non-violence.”
