Reckless driving must be curbed

WHAT was published recently about the police of Ras Al Khaima, who arrested a young man for reckless driving, was surprising. The surprise was that the same car was released from the police station a few hours before it was seized again.

That shows that punishments for reckless driving should be reviewed. Punishments should be sufficiently deterring and exemplary. There should be a mechanism to control those who believe that roads are stages for their adventurers and that the cars are the machines for their shows.

The punishment for reckless driving should be made more severe and stern because such drivers pose dangers not only to themselves, but also to others as well.
