Reckless driver pays the price

ABU DHABI - A reckless driver who killed a pedestrian while jumping red signal has been ordered to pay Dh200,000 after he appealed against an earlier court ruling which ordered him to pay Dh150,000 as blood money.

Yassin Khan was found guilty by the General Prosecutor Office in Al Ain of causing the death of Khol Pisan. A court of first instance sentenced the accused for a month in prison and ordered him to pay Dh150,000 in addition to a fine of Dh500.

He appealed against the ruling at the Court of Appeals, which upheld the verdict. He appealed for the second time claiming that the deceased was rushing to cross the road though the signal was red which resulted in the accident. In the light of the reason, he cited, the Federal Supreme Court ordered him to pay Dh200,000 instead of Dh150,000, as blood money.
