ABU DHABI — A total of 111 people will perform Haj this season under the pilgrim sponsorship programme launched by the Red Crescent Authority.
RCA Secretary-General Dr Saleh Al Taie said the programme targeted low-income people who could not afford to bear the expenses of the fifth pillar of Islam.
He paid tributes to philanthropists for supporting the charity initiative.
Abdul Samad Al Qahtani, coordinator of charity services, RCA, said yesterday that 111 pilgrims would benefit from the programme. Of them, 25 people have already reached the holy land by road.
“As many as 86 pilgrims will travel by air,” he added. He said that a medical team would be at hand to deliver health services to the pilgrims in case of emergency. First-aid kits will also be available.
An RCA administrative team will also be there to offer any assistance to pilgrims.
