The 'People of Determination' at the Rashid Centre for the Determined Ones have rolled out a series of activities to observe the Year of Zayed and celebrate the legacy of the UAE's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Mariam Othman, co-founder and director of the Rashid Centre for the Determined Ones, announced on Monday that various activities will take place at their school with different themes each month, reflecting "Sheikh Zayed's wisdom on tolerance, women and children, Ramadan, youth, media, arts, culture, heritage, sports, agriculture and national unity."
"As we celebrate the humanitarian aspects of the late father, may God rest his soul, we also take pride that the people of determination had always been in the heart and mind of Sheikh Zayed," Othman said.
"Celebrations at Rashid Centre are under the overarching theme - 'Zayed: The Leader of Humanity," she explained.
"In February, we celebrate 'Zayed and Tolerance', highlighting the role of Sheikh Zayed in establishing peace, renouncing violence and extremism, and deepening the culture of coexistence between different cultures, beliefs and religions in the UAE," Othman added.
For the month of March, focus will be on 'Zayed and Sports' to reflect on the development and establishment of sports clubs and the participation of the UAE in regional and international sports competitions.
'Zayed. Women and Children' is the celebration in April. " The founding father gave Emirati women the most attention and care and treated them as the cornerstone of human development," Othman underlined.
"Sheikh Zayed also gave utmost importance to the protection of children's rights and dignity through the enactment of laws and legislations in accordance to international conventions guaranteeing children's rights to education, safety, treatment and care," she added.
In May, the Zayed Cultural Centennial will be held in cooperation with the Dubai Culture Authority on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Hakim Al Arab, who filled the world with wisdom and good advice, according to Othman.
With the holy month of Ramadan falling in June, the people of determination will observe Sheikh Zayed's thoughts on Islamic culture.
'Zayed and the Press' will take centrestage in July to celebrate Sheikh Zayed's role in protecting Press freedom and support in establishment of newspapers, magazines and news agencies in the UAE.
'Zayed and the Youth' will be the highlight in August and a group of students from Rashid Centre will fly to Kathmandu to take the image of Sheikh Zayed on Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, Othman noted.
Events in September will focus on Emirati heritage and Sheikh Zayed's role preserving and enriching UAE's culture while environmental protection will be the main highlight in October.
Sustainable agriculture is theme for November and the people of determination will showcase the plants, vegetables and fruits they have cultivated.
In December, 'Zayed and the Union' will be the centrepiece, in time for the UAE National Day and to highlight the nation's unity under the founding father, Othman concluded.
