Ramadan fatwas: Can women use pills to prevent menstruation to fast?

Taking such pills must absolutely not result in putting her life and health at risk.

Question: What is the injunction of Shari'ah in a woman using pills to prevent her menstruation, so that she can fast the whole month?
Answer: The Muslim woman is allowed to take pills to stop menses during Ramadan. If she does so to continue observing fasting, then her intention is a good one and Allah will reward her for such a good intention. Using pills to prevent menstruation is also permissible Insha'Allah, if this will not result in any harm to the woman. If they do, she must not use them. Since using this medicine is a means to help women in worship, the means take the same rule as the intended acts. So, if one intends to do a good deed and uses a permitted mean(s), he/she will be rewarded for the intention. Taking such pills must absolutely not result in putting her life and health at risk and this must be ensured. Hence, it is advisable to seek seek the advice of a reliable physician before she makes this health and spiritual decision.
