RAK Bakeries to Reduce Prices of Products

RAS AL KHAIMAH - The Ministry of Economy wants bakery owners in Ras Al Khaimah to reduce prices, especially that of bread, following the drop in wheat prices.

Officials said the price of wheat has dropped by 25 per cent in recent months and that bakeries should amend the prices of bread and other wheat related products.

Dr Hashem Al Nuaimi, who heads the Customer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy, said that during their meeting with the bakery owners in RAK on Wednesday, which was also attended by officials from the RAK Municipality and the RAK Department of Economic Development (DED), the ministry had reached an agreement with the bakeries to reduce bread prices.

He noted that they would discuss the bread price amendments with the key bakeries in the emirate and later on the Ministry will issue a new price list for the

bread which will be effective from the beginning of January.

Al Nuaimi said all the bakeries will have to follow the new price list and hefty penalties would be imposed on violators.

Adil Ali Al Deek, Chief of the Environmental and Health Department at Ras Al Khaimah Municipality said municipal inspectors would monitor the bread prices and also ensure that they are of standard quality.

Al Deek added that Ras Al Khaimah Municipality has also started inspection campaigns on the various bakeries in the emirate to ensure that their premises comply with the municipal norms and that they maitain good hygienic conditions.
