From offering dinner dates with local celebrities and radio presenters to filling a bus with different nationalities , a number of stations have come up with fresh new ideas to encourage people to donate more for charity.

The campaign which began on the Arabian Radio Network's (ARN) four radio stations, 101.6, 96.7, 98.9 and 100.9 from the beginning of Ramadan, has gained quite a bit of popularity amongst the city's residents with many of them generously opening their purse strings for a good cause.

One of the most popular promotions currently running on air is the 'Dinner Date With Someone Great' on City 101.6, the official station for the ‘Dubai The City That Cares’ (DTCTC) campaign.

Avid listeners of the station, who could previously only listen to their favorite presenters on-air now have a chance of meeting them in person through this promtion. This innovative contest offers listeners, who bid the highest amount of money, to meet their favourite radio presenters over a sumptuous dinner with all the proceeds going for charity.

Chethan Fernandes, Head of Programming at City FM, says, “the promotion has been so successful that we’ve had to reject many listeners. It’s touching to see Dubai's residents contributing to a noble cause and we’re proud to be facilitators in this process," he said.

Arab fans will also get a chance to brush shoulders with well-known celebrities through similar promtions on the Al Arabiya 98.9 FM and Al Khaleejiah,100.9 FM. The broadcast takes place from the Mina Al Salam Hotel and invites a variety of well-known and popular personalities, including TV celebrities, cinema stars, businessmen, authors, broadcasters and sports personalities.

This week popular Egyptian actor Hani Salameh and singer Simone will meet the two people who bid the highest for them.

All funds collected during these campaigns will be donated to various charity organisations participating such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian & Charity Est, Dubai Aid City, UNICEF, World Food Programme and Beit El Kheir.
