Twenty-five UAE nationals, including 10 females, will take part in the three-day contest with Monday and Tuesday allotted for men and Wednesday reserved for the women.

Each contestant yesterday was given an individual test. The panel of judges comprises Egyptian Quran scholar and Al Azhar graduate Dirweesh Faraj and his UAE colleague Farouq Fakhreddin. The panel will ask every participant to recite a passage from the holy book up to a certain point.

Contestants who manage to score over 80 per cent will receive a cash prize of Dh20,000.

Organisers said that a ceremony would be held on August 13 to honour the winners.
