The tournament, which tees off with a 2pm shot gun, takes on an added significance as being the season-ending event of the society which boasts close to 150 members.

“Despite the searing heat, the response to the tournament has been overwhelming, something which shows the commitment of our members towards our events,” Sudesh Aggarwal, chairman of the IGS, told reporters yesterday.

“This season we played host to five tournaments at different venues and each event threw up a new winner which is quite interesting and reflects on the improving standards of our members,” he said.

“The success of the event wouldn’t have been possible without the valuable support from our sponsors – ABN Amro, Chivas and Air India, in particular,” Sudesh said, adding: “We are also grateful to Indian Consul-General Y.K. Sinha for his support and his participation in this event.”

The season-ending tournament will follow the individual stableford format with a full handicap allowance. “Prizes will be presented to the top three golfers in each division – Division A (0-14) and Division B (15 and above),” K.J. Singh, the event coordinator said.

“Besides we have prizes for nearest to the pin, longest drives and Best Gross,” he said.

“The players to watch out in the tournament will be the Lakdawala brothers – Bayhaan (handicap 1) and Shezad (4) – who are here on summer holidays after honing their skills at the famed David Leadbetter Academy in the United States,” KJ said.
