Qataris in UAE vote on constitution

ABU DHABI - Qataris living in the UAE voted yesterday in a general referendum on their country's permanent constitution. They cast their ballots at the premises of the Qatari embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate General in Dubai.

According to Ambassador Abdullah Mohammed Al Othman, the permanent constitution stipulates the setting up of an elected Shura (consultative) Council for the first time in the history of Qatar. The council would be elected by direct secret balloting, he added.
