"Our outsourcing of work or privatisation of certain operations will not impact the workers employed with the civic body. The companies taking over the operations would take over the workforce," Al Maidour said in response to a query.

He made the statement during a brief interview on the civic body's emerging policy, which lays emphasis on collaboration with the private sector on various levels.

"The reason privatisation has caught on is that earlier the private sector in the UAE was not capable enough. But the situation is different today," he said.

Al Maidour pointed out that the civic body has already privatised several of its operations, including security (at public parks), housekeeping, civic services connected to waste collection, handling and treatment.

"We are open to proposals. Anyone who has an idea that can work and benefit the society, can approach us at the Investment Office," Al Maidour said. He added that there has been immense response even from foreign companies and the flexibility in the system has allowed these to participate in Dubai's growth.
