ABU DHABI - The private schools that increase their tuition fees without the approval of the education zones concerned will face penalties, including fines, to be fixed by the Ministry of Education (MoE).
Nadya Mohsen Maddi, Deputy Director of Private Education at the Abu Dhabi Education Zone (Adez), told Khaleej Times on Sunday that the private schools are not allowed to hike the fees even if they have applied for permission to switch to new curricula.
The parents must read the approval letter issued by the education zone to the particular school for changing the curriculum or starting a new one (American or British).
An Egyptian parent, Adel Mohammad, informed Maddi recently that Al Yobil Private school where his child studies increased the annual fee in June this year from Dh5,000 to Dh9,450.
Mohammed told this reporter, “The school administration promised the parents to switch to English medium from Arabic when it increased the fee. However, the school did not show the permission letter from the Adez for changing the medium of instruction even after I demanded it several times.”
Reacting to this, Maddi said, “As per the private education law, we send a warning letter to the school found not complying with the law for the first time. In case the school repeats the mistake, a fine yet to be fixed by the Ministry of Education will be imposed.”
