Private companies to manage 30 schools

ABU DHABI — As part of a significant public-private partnership, 30 schools will be managed by private companies from the next academic year, according to the Director of Abu Dhabi Educational Council.

of the Education Committee of the National Consultative Council (NCC), which met yesterday under the chairmanship of Shaikh Ahmed Al Dhaheri. He also briefed them about plans to further develop education and the need to enter into a partnership with the private sector.

The committee later met top Education Ministry officials including Dr Shaikha Al Shamsi, Assistant Under-Secretary for Educational Management; Khoula Al Mulla, Assistant Under-Secretary for Curricula; and Juma Al Salami, Under-Secretary for Private Education.

Their meeting focused on the ministry's role in monitoring and supervising the selection of text books being used in foreign syllabus schools.

On the viability of villa schools, the committee was told that a team comprising education ministry, municipality and traffic police officials had examined the situation and found that some were working adequately and efficiently, other were not. The committee decided to close three such erring schools every year.

As many as 73 schools adopt foreign curricula while 41 follow the Education Ministry's curricula.
