A ministerial order to this effect was issued on Wednesday following Organisation of International Epizootics (OIE) reports confirming cases of an outbreak of the dangerous disease in Laos. The import ban is a precautionary measure taken to protect human and animal health in the country.

The ministry has ordered the animal health department to coordinate with the respective authorities and quarantine organisations at various entry points into the country to take necessary measures towards strict implementation of the order.
